“I’m proud that I listen to myself. It’s one thing to be driven and ambitious, but it’s so easy to do that all wrong and force it. I think when the magic happens—when you really find your flow—is when you’re willing to follow your drive, but not worry too much about it. That’s tough [to balance], but it’s a dance that can allow you to really tap into your talents and passion.

For me, it’s not guilting myself into working harder, but still listening to the voice saying, ‘I want to bake cookies at 3 in the morning!’ I always wanted to be a writer, an artist, an activist—so many things I thought about, but never did. [But cooking] is happening on its own, and it’s a really fulfilling hobby."
