“I’m most proud of putting myself through school and being the first in my family to have a career—I’m a funeral director, hence the sleepiness [above]! But I’m really proud to do something I’ve always wanted to do, and it’s given me a lot of confidence to be proud of what I can do and how I can help others.

[Funeral directing] has certainly has been [male-dominated], but it is changing. There are a lot more women. I’m part of a group on Facebook called The Future (of Funeral Directing) Is Female, so it’s awesome to see women come together about how we’re changing the industry.

Not to say men aren’t compassionate, but I think sometimes women have a better way of conveying that compassion and empathy to others, and it’s something needed in the industry. You’re helping people through the hardest day of their life, and anything I can do to make that easier for them is incredible.”
