“I’ve wanted to be a homeowner ever since I was a teenager. As someone who has moved around a lot, I dreamt of being able to put down roots and have a sense of stability. 

I had inspiration boards of everything from furniture to paint colors before Pinterest was a thing. It felt like it took forever to get to a place in my life where I could make it happen, but last year I finally bought a house, and I did it all on my own. It’s a small fixer-upper, but it’s in a great location, my dog has a yard, and it’s mine.

I won’t say it’s been easy—house projects are EXPENSIVE—but I’m so glad I did it and I feel lucky every day."
